Phenazopyridine hydrochloride is a urinary tract pain reliever.  Some people refer to it as phenazopyridine pain medication.

It is important to understand that this medication is an analgesic that is specific to pain in the urinary tract.  It relieves pain in the bladder and urethra.

Often the medication is used to treat pain related to a urinary tract infections.  The medication also has antiseptic properties to help fight off urinary tract infections.

What is the phenazopyridine brand name?

The phenazopyridine brand name is Pyridium®.

Pyridium® is a registered trademark of ERFA Canada.

What are phenazopyridine compounded capsules?

Phenazopyridine compounded capsules are capsules made by our compounding pharmacy lab which contain the active medicinal ingredient from Pyridium®.

Basically these compounded capsules are a Pyridium® alternative which can be obtained when the brand name commercially-manufactured product is not available.

When the brand name product is available customers can receive the commercially-available product.

What dosage of the medication are available?

This medication is available in both 200mg and 100mg compounded capsules.  Our compounding pharmacy lab usually has both of these strengths available.  In most cases you will not need to wait for this medication to be compounded.

How is the medication taken?

Most commonly this drug is taken 3 times a day with food for 2 to 5 days depending on how it was prescribed by your prescriber.

What are the side effects of the medication?

The most important side effect to be aware of is that this medication can discolor your urine and other bloodily fluids.  Due to the chemical structure of the medication it turns the urine color to a reddish orange color.

Your tears may also change color.  It is important to be aware of this change in color because this can be alarming to you if you are not aware.

Other common side effects include headache, upset stomach, dizziness and itching.

It is important to let your doctor or pharmacist know if you experience any serious side effects while taking this medication.

How do I get phenazopyridine from Tache Pharmacy?

This medication does require a prescription from your prescriber.
