Paxlovid is a prescription medication made by Pfizer Canada and therefore requires a prescription from your doctor.

Paxlovid Ingredients

What are the Paxlovid ingredients?  The active ingredients in Paxlovid are nirmatrelvir and ritonovir.  As you can see the drug is a combination of two antiviral medications.  

To be exact, Paxlovid contains nirmatrelvir 150mg and ritonavir 100mg. 

The Paxlovid dosing is as follows: Most adult patients will take 300mg of nirmatrelvir twice daily along with 150mg ritonavir twice daily for 5 days.  Adults with moderate kidney impairment will take 150mg of nirmatrelvir twice daily along with 150mg ritonavir twice daily for 5 days.

The non-medicinal ingredients in the nirmatrelvir tablets are: colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium stearyl fumarate. The film-coating contains hydroxy propyl methylcellulose, iron oxide red, polyethylene glycol and titanium dioxide.

The non-medicinal ingredients in ritonavir tablets are: anhydrous dibasic calcium phosphate, colloidal silicon dioxide, copovidone, sodium stearyl fumarate, and sorbitan monolaurate. The film-coating contains colloidal silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, talc and titanium dioxide.

How does Paxlovid work?

Paxlovid is a combination of two antiviral drugs.  The drugs are in two separate tablets but are packaged in convenient dosage packaging.

The antiviral drugs prevent the Covid-19 virus from multiplying.  By stopping the multiplication of the virus the drug helps your body to fight and over come the viral infection.
