What is the ointment used for?

This ointment is used to treat sore and/or cracked nipples which leads to nipple pain.  The nipple pain is caused by breastfeeding issues (poor latch, thrush, etc), bacterial infections, fungal infections or skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis.

The combination of an antibiotic, antifungal and corticosteroid helps to heal the tissues and relieve the nipple pain.

How do I use the ointment?

All-purpose nipple ointment is usually applied after each feeding when used during breastfeeding.  If used in other conditions, apply as per the protocol prescribed by your physician.

After applying, the nipple should appear shiny, but there should NOT be any visible sign of excess ointment on the nipple.

The ointment generally does NOT need to be wiped off before the baby’s next feeding.

Usually, women use the ointment until the nipples are pain free and then gradually reduce applications over a week.
