Bioidentical hormones mimic your body’s natural hormones and are considered safe.  Bioidentical hormones are different from the synthetic hormones which have been linked to harmful effects.

Synthetic versions of estrogen and progesterone have been linked to adverse effects such as cancer and cardiovascular disorders.  Bioidentical hormones are not known to produce these adverse effects.

If you would like to learn more about BHRT we strongly recommend reading the book “Discovering Your True Balance with Bioidentical Hormones” by Dr. Ron Brown.  This is an excellent resource for learning about, and understanding, bioidentical hormones and their benefits.

Benefits of BHRT

The benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is that it can help significantly reduce the symptoms listed above.

BHRT can also reduce your risk of experiencing cataracts, diabetes and even tooth loss.

You may even experience improvements in your skin.  These improvements can include increased hydration, elasticity and skin thickness.  BHRT may even reduce wrinkles.

For women who have had cancer treatments that affect their estrogen levels, BHRT can improve overall well-being and quality of life.

In fact, women with cancer who used BHRT experienced improvements in treatment-related adverse effects such as incontinence, insomnia, migraines and low libido.   Recurrence rate of breast cancer was found to be the same as women who did not use BHRT.

A study titled “Effectiveness of compounded bioidentical hormone replacement therapy: an observational cohort study” by Andres D Ruiz et al. (BMC women’s health 11 (1), 27, 2011) found the following results:

“Women (n = 296) receiving BHRT at Oakdell Pharmacy had a mean (standard deviation) age of 52 (9) years.

The most common BHRT dosage forms utilized were topical (71%) and oral (43%). Compounded BHRT regimens were generally initiated at low doses regardless of route.

Women experienced a 25% decrease in emotional lability (p < 0.01), a 25% decrease in irritability (p < 0.01), and a 22% reduction in anxiety (p = 0.01) within 3 to 6 months.

These women also experienced a 14% reduction in night sweats (p = 0.09) and a 6% reduction in hot flashes (p = 0.50).

This study demonstrates that compounded BHRT improves mood symptoms.”

The Importance of Hormone Balance

Hormone imbalance is common.

It is especially common in women entering perimenopause and menopause.

Hormones, the interplay of various hormones in creating hormone balance and hormone therapy can be a very complicated topic.  Let us demistify and simplify it for you.

Let’s get started…

The levels of various hormones are highly interconnected.

Levels of one hormone can affect the functioning of another.

Hormone imbalances can lead to significant unwanted symptoms.  These symptoms can range from minor nuisance to a major disruption in quality of life.

Because of the complexity of hormones and the potential health effects, hormone replacement therapy recommendations require specialized knowledge.

To learn more about progesterone hormone replacement therapy please visit our Progesterone Hormone Replacement Therapy page.

Our Pharmacists Have Specialized Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of the various factors leading to hormone imbalances is essential in order to correct those imbalances.

The specific symptoms provide us clues as to what imbalances are occurring.

Specialized knowledge of common symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, foggy thinking, memory lapses, anxiety, depression, mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, and vaginal dryness help in narrowing the root cause.

Also, expertise related to lifestyle factors such as stress reduction, sleep hygiene, diet, and exercise as well as supplements (vitamins, minerals, and herbals) can aid in optimizing an individual’s overall health and well-being.

At Tache Pharmacy we offer one-on-one consultations with pharmacists who have had specialized training in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

This allows us to provide personalized recommendations to help restore hormone balance.

The Consultation Process

It is very important to understand that in order for our pharmacists to make a proper recommendation a lot of time and research is involved.

Hundreds of hours of study and training have been invested in creating our consultation program.

Each consultation is unique, complicated and very involved.  This requires time and expertise.  Our consultation fee covers this time, expertise and continuous training.

Due to this fact, we are not able to make recommendations for free without a consultation with patients.

To make our recommendations, we utilize a detailed health questionnaire completed by each patient.

This questionnaire includes questions regarding:

  • treatment goals
  • medical history
  • symptom inventory

This information along with saliva testing (optional but strongly suggested) help to assure the most appropriate advice can be given.

A detailed, personalized hormone report is prepared.

A physician report is also provided if any bioidentical hormones are recommended.

Often times nutritional supplements are also recommended should it be determined they can help optimize therapy.

Once the consultation process is completed and you begin the recommended therapies, follow up is provided.  Follow up is usually at one and three month intervals.

This follow up is done to monitor progress and to provide any additional advice required should any issues arise.  We want to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved.

Most patients notice symptom improvement and tolerate bioidentical hormone therapy very well.
